Abstract
Over the last two decades, many studies have been conducted and various research has also been made to study the key factors in project management that affect the performance of the project either successful or fail in a development project. Recently, several construction projects are said to have often been delayed an unsuccessfully completed over time, scope and budget set. Among the causes of project management weaknesses are specific to ineffective leadership aspects and weaknesses of leaders practiced by project managers and monitoring project teams, individuals and parties involved in project management (Noraini, 2012). The effective leadership is indispensable for an organization to increase business and economy to the nation. Countries will grow rapidly and more advanced if they have a great, charismatic and dedicated leader. Based on Misran and Othman (2011), there are some construction projects unsuccessfully completed over time, scope and budget that have been set up due to the weakness of the human factor, especially from the ineffective leadership aspect and the weakness of the leader practiced by the project manager in managing the project team which caused a project to fail to be completed on schedule. The impact from the problem is the leadership have significant relationship toward employee to project success and also effect the achievement of organizational goals. Other than that, Zhang and Faerman (2007) say that every organization needs leadership to change the way they interact with both external and internal areas to improve the economy and demographic energy and also raise questions about the kind of leadership needed to accommodate organizational change and structuring of work. However, many researchers argue that the leadership theory does not provide an adequate direction to improve leadership (Ahmad, 2013; Brown & Gioia, 2002; Huxham & Vangen, 2000).
